pATROLMAN STANLEY BUTCH
HARBOR UNIT
FEBRUARY 11, 1966
The winter, East-River waters off Pier 44, on February 11, 1966, found Patrolman Stanley Butch,
with his team, placing a grappling hook on a submerged auto, from their rowboat.
But Patrolman Butch was swept into the river by the frigid tides.
He was removed to the water’s edge and treated by a doctor, but the patrolman’s life was lost.
