On October 13, 1970, Patrolman Maurice J. Erben,
stationed on the deck of Launch 4 on the East Rive, next to Pier 10,
had been struggling to recover a human body from the water. 
But when an unexpected current slammed the launch into the pier,
Patrolman Erben was fatally crushed against the pilings.
