SERGEANT NEIL GIBBONS, AND PATROLMAN JOHN J. MCGLYNN,
were injured fatally after their police launch exploded on October 15, 1924,
on the East River.

     Just after refueling, a sudden fire and a powerful explosion
hurled both of the Marine Division officers into the river.
