pATROLMAN pATRICK HARRINGTON

patrolman JOSEPH T. MARICONDA

aviation unit

MARCH 1, 1970

It was just an everyday surveillance mission for Patrolmen Patrick Harrington and Joseph T. Mariconda.
Their helicopter cruised high against a powder blue sky over Queens. It was the 1stday of March, in 1970.

But in the next unforgiving heartbeat, the Aviation partners would be killed, when their Bell aircraft suffered a sudden
engine failure and crashed to destruction on a quiet neighborhood street, outside a row of single-family houses.

Both are Veterans of the Viet Nam war. Patrolman Mariconda was twice shot down while flying in Viet Nam.
