Just under 400 names were added to the Walls of Honor this year. For NYPD Emergency Service, this was our third year of adding the names of our members that served or are still serving our Country, carrying on with an idea that retired REMA member Bobby Gates, ESS Truck 1 had in 2021. Forty more names, 118 in total, with service ranging from World War Two up through current times. Although the threat of rain was ever present, it did not stop the Honorees, their families and friends or the loved one of those no longer with us. from coming. Thankfully, the rain held off and the misty air was tolerable. A few short speeches by local dignitaries and politicians, all showing support for America and her Veterans, prayers, the Pledge of Allegiance, a rifle salute by the Westbury High School ROTC Cadets and Taps. A perfect day for sure, despite the weather.

One of last year’s Honorees, retired NYPD ESU Sergeant Paul Hargrove, passed away a few months after the ceremony. His words last year sum up today prefectly:  
  “I would like to thank you all for your support today. To all who were physically present and those who were with us in spirit, Thank You! Having my name added to the Veterans Wall in Eisenhower Park is an Honor, especially being with all those who served in ESU. My family felt your strength and knows you are with them. God Bless you all”.
