History of the Museum
The NYPD Museum @ Patrol Borough Queens South was founded together with the Patrol Borough Queens South Line of Duty Memorial on October 15th, 2009.
The Museum was created by members of the department, acting on their own, to preserve the history of, and inspire pride in, the greatest Police Department in the world.
The display had humble beginnings consisting of only a few showcases with items which were left behind as members retired. But over the years, the founders Sergeant Special Assignment John Schroeder and Police Officer Joseph Marino, expanded the display to encompass all three (3) floors of the 107th Precinct. Today there are over 1300 items which have been logged into inventory. The majority of these items are “on loan” from the families of Members of the Service, and are available to be returned at the families request.
The museum continues on today thanks to the support of the C.O. of PBQS, Assistant Chief Kevin Williams, and is actively operated/maintained by Sergeant Navdeep Singh, PBQS Operations, together with its founders and curators John Schroeder and Joseph Marino.
This museum continues to fill the void of a city without an Official Police Museum. We hope that one day the greatest police department in the world will once again have the honor of having a Official New York City Police Museum.
What no room in the new Police Academy.
