REMA Day of Remembrance
September 24, 2021
The year 2021 was a year dominated by Covid, and the REMA Day of Remembrance was no exception. Ever since 2003, we remember our Members killed in the line of duty. That first year, and a few that followed, the ceremony was held outdoors at Floyd Bennett Field and honored the 14 Officers killed on September 11th. A portable stage was supplied by the NYC Department of Parks. As the Day of Remembrance evolved, the Remembrance came to include all the lost members of the Special Operations command. The ceremony was moved inside to the Aviation hangar in order to accommodate the growing crowd. The date has always been the last Saturday of April.
In 2021, this was not possible because of the restrictions imposed on having large groups gather. We could not let the Day of Remembrance pass without recognition. The solution? An digital version of the Day. A video was put together in order to replicate the Day as much as possible. (VIDEO HERE).
However, with the 20th anniversary of 9/11 approaching, and the Covid restrictions loosening, it was decided that an outdoor ceremony be had. The Day of Remembrance will be held, albeit a few months late, outdoors. Pictures of that day can be found HERE.
The Spring 3100 issue 1/2 of 2022, had the story of that Day of Remembrance. REMA thanks Spring 3100 for their coverage and support.
