SPECIALIZED TRAINING SCHOOL

“CREATING FIRST RESPONDERS SINCE 1930″

GRADUATING CLASS OF 2023

Heritage day is the day before the recruits in the ESU Specialize Training School (STS) graduate after nine months of training. The school has developed over the last nine decades. Initially it was learn as you go from the old veterans. Soon it was two weeks of hands on training. In the 1980 it expanded to a whopping six weeks!

Graduation then was, thanks for coming, here is where you’re going, now get out. Once in the “Truck” the rookie once again learned from the old guy. “Sit down, shut up and don’t touch anything”. Occasionally, whenever a specialized class or shcool was available, you would attend. Eventually you attended all the classes and you became an fully trained E Cop.

Now, it’s all taught in one, nine month long session. But even after all that schooling and hands on training, once you get to a Truck it’s, “Sit down, shut up and don’t touch anything”.
So to the newly graduated members of STS, welcome to ESU.
Good luck, stay safe and watch out for each other.

In the immortal words of Detective Dan Guiney, STS class of 1987: “Safety first dude”.
