On October 4, 1901, Patrolman John Hoey died after being run over in Central Park.
An approach automobile spooked his horse and threw Patrolman Hoey,
walking beside his steed, into the path of the vehicle.
Hoey was run over and removed to a local hospital
where he died the next day from crushing injuries.
