WALLS OF HONOR DEDICATION
OCTOBER 1, 2022
Eisenhower Park, Nassau County NY
The Walls of Honor is NOT a memorial. It is a series of stainless steel panels engraved with the names of Veterans who have bravely served our Nation during wartime or protected us during peacetime. (see full story here). The 2022 Walls were unveiled on Saturday, October 1. Forecasts severe rain and wind did not keep away the families and friends of those so honored.
The following are the words retired REMA member Bobby Gates, whose original idea brought us all to this day.
Several years ago, after a game of golf at Eisenhower Park, I crossed the street to visit the Veterans Memorial Plaza. A tribute to the men and women of all wars. Over the last three years I thought it would be great to honor our active, retired, deceased, ex-military police men and women by having their names engraved on a stainless steel panal which is then mounted on granite walls.
It’s what we accomplished through perseverance. It didn’t take me long to define the definition of Brotherhood, when REMA members Al Baker and Tony Cuccia, along with the Walls of Honor administrator Allison Ridam Krivosheiw, stepped up and got the ball rolling. We also want to thank the numerous members of REMA regarding the research information.
It’s a blessing we hit a home run in our first attempt, with 40 Honories carved in steel and mounted on granite. We should all feel comfort and solace to revive one’s spirit regarding a loved one. Forty names equals forty loving families. We look forward to next year.
Thank you all. godspeed and Blessings, Bob.
