On July 13, 1922, Patrolman Gustave A. Boettger Jr.
died after being injured years earlier in 1910.
He had secured a runaway horse-drawn wagon with the driver still on board,
when his horse was struck by another vehicle and he was thrown,
suffering a fractured skull. He eventually returned to duty and passed due to his injury.
