Detective Abraham Walton, was shot and killed on July 14th, 1980, when he interrupted a social club robbery while off-duty. Three armed suspects entered pointing handguns and announced a hold-up. The gunmen forced the patrons to the floor demanding their money and jewelry. But when the robbers began beating the victims, Detective Walton drew his pistol, shouted: ‘POLICE’ and ordered the suspects down.

     Outnumbered by 3 to 1, gunshots exploded.  The detective was hit four times, and the robbers fled with his gun.  Detective Walton was taken to the hospital where his wounds proved fatal.
