rema meeting

september 17, 2025

At the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant for our annual 9/11 Remembrance lunch. Although turnout was better this year, 56, than last year,it was still a nice day. Than again, anytime we remember our lost souls it’s always nice. We continu to keep our promise to “Never Forget” our lost ESU Heroes of September 11th and those that have passed since.  As with every September meeting, their names were read by retired LT. Al Baker followed by a moment of silence. Owen McCaffrey’s daughter started the day with a beautiful rendition of our Star Spangled Banner followed by Monsignor Romano’s prayer….and then some, as only he can.

The buffet lunch was awesome with many “refills”. After lunch the raffle commenced. The door prize, just for attending, was larger this year. It is now a 43″ TV! It was won, in fact nearly every prize was won by Chris Fitzgerald. Overheard was: “Hey Fitz, now you can watch the Jets lose on a bigger screen!”. We can’t print his response here. Instituted two years ago, the door prize is a big hit.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday September 24th. Plenty of time to mark your calendars. Next year will be the 25th commemoration of 9/11. We must have a tremendous showing of support for the families and friends, especially Monsignor Romano. Each year he hold a 9/11 Mass at his Brooklyn parrish. This year’s turnout was not very good, disappointing in fact. Let’s make the next Mass standing room only. Updates on the Mass will be posted on the REMA website as warrants.

No excuses next year of I forgot or I have a doctors appointment. Oh, and tell the kids that you can’t watch the grandkids that day! Until then, enjoy the pictures.
