FEMA officially recognizes NYPD-ESU and FDNY as the NYC Urban Search and Rescue Task Force One. (NY-TF-1) based on ESU’s Disaster Response Team Formed in 1989

April 11, 1986
Second STS class of 1986 graduates and receives Truck assignments helping to reopen Trucks 4 and 7.

April 14, 1986
ESS#7 officially re-activated at the 75Pct, (closed since 1975)
ESS#9 from 75Pct to 113Pct in
(ESS#9 formerly located at the 106Pct, moved to 75Pct in 1975 amid budget cuts)

April 18, 1986
Due to a heightened state of alert issued by the US State Department, ESU tasked to provide Dignitary Protection Escorts to EL Al flight crews from JFK to Manhattan (Apr-May 86)

April 19, 1995
First major deployment of NY-TF 1.
NY Urban Search and Rescue Team (NY-TF1) deployed to Oklahoma City in response to the bombing of Alfred P. Murray Federal Building. First major deployment of NY-TF 1.
