As a 3rd generation rookie on patrol in Brooklyn,
POLICE OFFICER Kenneth Hansen followed in the footsteps of his father,
Detective John Hansen, Sr., of the Harbor Unit, and his grandfather,
NYPD Patrolman Michael Harrigan.

On June 11, 1991, Officer Hansen became missing
while performing the role of a victim in the water during
an air-sea-rescu, training exercise in the River off Battery Park.
After an intense search, he was recovered the following day.
Detective Hansen Sr.’s other son, Police Officer John Hansen Jr.,
also a member of the Harbor Unit, participated in the search for his brother Kenny.

Ten years passed, and the NYPD-K9, named “Hanson” would alert his handler
to the remains of ESU Sergeant Mike Curtin at Ground Zero.
